I actually practiced this almost 10 times before getting to this point. I also followed the suggestion(s) by Betty Edwards and repeated things like forehead, eyes, nose, mouth, chin, etc...
This is perfect for what the exercise was. I also did a few where I did a completely abstract shape on the left and then tried to mirror it on the right. If nothing else, it's a good warm up exercise to use.
